Competition winners

 

Three Prizes of £100 are being offered for work on Franz Kafka by the German Department of the University of Oxford, the Oxford Kafka Research Centre and the journal German Life and Letters. The competition forms part of the Think German campaign organised by the German Embassy and other partners. For more information, go to: http://www.thinkgerman.org.uk.

The prizes are offered for:

  • The Best Translation of a Kafka Story

    Die Sorge des Hausvaters or Die Prüfung
  • The Best Essay on a Kafka Story

    In der Strafkolonie or Ein Bericht für eine Akademie
  • The Best Creative Response to a Kafka Story

    Eine Kreuzung or Ein Kommentar (Gib’s auf!)

How to enter

Entrants must be enrolled at a school in the United Kingdom or Ireland and must have started a course in German. Translations must be accompanied by a statement giving details of any published translations consulted. Essays and Creative Responses may be in German or English; the maximum length is 1000 words.

Entries should be sent by post to: Kerry Burgess, Faculty of Modern Languages, 41 Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JF, to arrive no later than Thursday 17 June 2010. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. Winners will be announced on 24 June 2010 and invited to Oxford for a prizegiving celebration in October 2010, with a rare viewing of some of Kafka’s original manuscripts in the Bodleian Library.
