We would love to meet any prospective students. While you are always welcome to send us any questions you might have about Modern Languages at Oxford by email (contact us at schools.liaison@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk), the best way you can get a feel for Oxford is to meet us in person. Below you will find details about our Open Days, our annual teachers' event, and other events schools can get involved in.
Open Days & Taster Days
Open Days ordinarily provide an excellent opportunity to visit the Faculty and meet tutors and students. The Faculty holds its main open day in April or May each year, and information sessions on the University open days in June or July and September. We also now run a Beginners' Languages Taster Day for prospective students looking to explore their options of taking a new language from scratch.
Most students attending are in Year 12, but we welcome equally students from Year 11 who are finalising their sixth-form subject choices and looking ahead to higher study, as well as all others with an interest in applying (e.g. post-qualification, mature students). You must register and book a place to attend the events below, unless otherwise stated.
Please note that some of our buildings are very old, with certain rooms being difficult to access for those using wheelchairs or walking aids. If you have any accessibility requirements and are planning to attend one of our events, please let us know via email as soon as possible so that we can accommodate specific needs.

Teachers' Conference
Our annual conference for teachers has developed out of the Sir Robert Taylor Society (named after the founder of our Modern Languages Library, the Taylor Institution), a network of teachers of Modern Foreign Languages in secondary schools, academics from the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, and others with an interest in languages. The event is a core aspect of the Faculty’s schools liaison activity, and provides a unique forum for interaction and exchange between the university and teachers, as well as exciting CPD and enrichment activities.
We invite teachers to spend a night in an Oxford college, to attend taster lectures and roundtable discussions, and to ask our academics and admissions team questions about supporting students in applying to Oxford. Our academics here at Oxford really appreciate this opportunity to meet with colleagues from schools, in order to learn about new curriculum developments and discuss issues of shared interest. You can find out more about it here.
Our 2024 Language Teachers’ Conference took place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September at Somerville College. The event programme can be found here.
