Maryse Condé, a major Francophone writer from Guadeloupe, and the author of one of the Oxford Prelims set texts (Traversée de la mangrove), passed away on 2nd April 2024. An obituary, by an Oxford Modern Languages alumna, Professor Louise Hardwick (Trinity, 2000), has just been published in the Guardian. Louise is currently Professor of Francophone Studies and World Literature at the University of Birmingham.
