Since 2014 the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation in Greece has been an important partner of the Sub Faculty of Byzantine and Modern Greek. With the support of the Foundation, we have organised a range of successful academic and public events, through which we have further established a dynamic hub for the on-going research and dialogue on Greek literature, culture and history that we support in Oxford.
This has also facilitated and encouraged student-led initiatives, including a new tradition of lively graduate conferences held annually at the university, open lectures on topics that relate to the academic interests of both our graduate and undergraduate students, and the invitation of guest speakers (from other UK universities and from Greece) to participate in our weekly research seminar.
Last, but not least, the Onassis Programme supports essential additional teaching in the areas of Modern Greek language and history (especially for the ab initio students), as well as the introductory (and open to all) lecture series ‘Introducing Modern Greece’.
