All are warmly invited to gather to launch the Faculty undergraduate prize for Czech and Slovak, named in memory of Dr James Naughton

Jim Naughton established the teaching of Czech at Oxford in the 1980s, eventually creating the degree in Czech with Slovak that thrives today. A hugely knowledgeable, unfailingly kind, witty and much-loved teacher, Faculty member and fellow at St Edmund Hall, he wrote the classic textbooks, Colloquial Czech and Colloquial Slovak, Czech: An Essential Grammar and many other learning resources and academic studies. Over a glass of wine, we shall pay tribute to his legacy, now enshrined, thanks to the fundraising efforts of one of his students and generous donations from colleagues, students, family and friends, in this annual prize for the best undergraduate performance in Czech with Slovak.
