The fifth biennial ‘Vallejo Siempre’ conference took place from 12-14 October this year, with the final day being held in Oxford.
It was co-hosted by UCL; with Professor Dominic Moran, of the Spanish Sub-Faculty at MML, taking the lead in organising from Oxford’s side.
This year marked the centenary of the publication of Vallejo's most important collection, Trilce, widely considered to be the most important book of avant-garde poetry to have come out of Latin America. Over thirty scholars (from Peru, Argentina, the USA, Puerto Rico, Spain and the United Kingdom) gave papers or plenary addresses, and the proceedings will be published next year in Peru. There was also an exhibition of rare early editions of Trilce in UCL.
Previous conferences have taken place in Lima (2014), Montevideo (2016), Salamanca (2018) and New York (virtually in 2021).
