The third annual Occitan Studies Day
The field of Occitan studies has long been known for interdisciplinary working, and it is with a view to furthering this that the third annual Occitan Studies Day will be held at the University of Oxford on 10th May 2025. This one-day conference aims to bring together researchers working on topics related to Occitan from across various disciplines (including, but not limited to, linguistics, literature, folklore, and history) to present and discuss their work and encourage collaboration amongst all those working with the language in the UK and beyond. The event's invited speaker will be Prof. Bill Burgwinkle (University of Cambridge).
Call for papers
We invite submissions for twenty-minute presentations on any aspect of academic research related to Occitan. The day does not have a set theme, but we encourage participants to consider how their work could contribute to the favouring and fostering of interdisciplinarity within Occitan studies. Abstracts (500 words maximum) should be sent to marc.olivier@ling-phil.ox.ac.uk no later than 3rd March 2025. Presentations can be given in any variety of Occitan or English. Due to the high-quality of previous submissions and the limited number of presentation slots available, the latter will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that the quality of the paper proposed is deemed acceptable by the organisers, and participants will be notified when all slots have been filled. The conference is scheduled to be held in-person.
Practical information for attendees:
The conference will be held on Saturday 10th May at the Maison Française d’Oxford (2-10 Norham Rd, Oxford OX2 6SE).
