Dr Karolina Watroba, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Modern Languages at All Souls College, was a guest on Melvyn Bragg’s 'In Our Time' podcast and radio programme. Alongside Erica Wickerson (University of Cambridge) and Seán Williams (University of Sheffield), Karolina discussed Thomas Mann's 1912 novella 'Death in Venice'. The infamous novella explores the link between creativity and self-destruction.

Karolina is also a member of the German Sub-Faculty and the Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation Research Centre (OCCT), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her first book, Mann’s Magic Mountain: World Literature and Closer Reading, was published by Oxford University Press in 2022. It is the first study of Mann's Der Zauberberg (1924) that takes as its starting point the interest in Mann’s book shown by non-academic readers.

The episode is available on the BBC website and as a podcast.
