Professor Karen Leeder, Professor of Modern German Literature and Fellow of New College, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Professor Leeder, whose research concerns modern German culture and thought and who is also a prize-winning translator of German literature was elected to the Fellowship in light of her contribution to scholarship and the arts.

Founded in 1754, the mission of The Royal Society of Arts is to create the conditions for the enlightened thinking and collaborative action needed to address today's most pressing social challenges.

Past and present members include Charles Dickens, Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Stephen Hawking, Benson Taylor and Tim Berners-Lee.
