The Choix Goncourt UK is a great occasion for British students who love reading to discover or develop a taste for contemporary French literature.
This year, 15 UK based universities and their students are taking part in this literary event. Students are convening in reading groups to discuss the books from the Académie Goncourt shortlist. On 25th March, they will meet (virtually) to choose their winner.
The Académie Goncourt announced on 26 October 2021 its final selection for the 2021 prize: Le Voyage dans l’Est by Christine Angot, Enfant de Salaud by Sorj Chalandon, Milwaukee Blues de by Louis-Philippe Dalembert and La Plus Secrète Mémoire des hommes, by Mohamed Mbougar Sarr.
As part of this third edition, the Maison Française d’Oxford will be hosting a series of special events with: Christine Angot on 26 January at 5pm and Louis-Philippe Dalembert on 9 February at 5pm. They will be in conversation with Catriona Seth (University of Oxford), and French actor Anne de Peufeilhoux will read excerpts of their books.
Students will also have the opportunity to ask our guests questions. These events are convened by Catriona Seth (Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, University of Oxford) and the Maison Française d’Oxford, in collaboration with the Higher Education, Research and Innovation Department at the French Embassy, the French Institute in London, the AUF Europe de l’Ouest, the Académie Goncourt and Librairie "La Page".
