Karen Leeder, Professor of Modern German Literature and Fellow of New College, has been longlisted for the Dublin Literature Award for her translation of Ulrike Almut Sandig's Monsters Like Us.

The award, which covers both translated and original English fiction, honours excellence in world literature. Among the 70 books nominated by 80 libraries around the world, six German novels have been listed, all by women writers. Karen commented, 'I think it's great that German literature makes such a good showing in this major international award.'

Sandig, whose poetry has also been translated by Karen, depicts in her novel a coming-of-age tale of two friends growing up in East Germany on the brink of the regime's collapse.

Winners of the award are announced on 23 May; we wish Karen the best of luck!
