Every year, the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages runs a variety of outreach events and activities, from open days, school visits and study days, to competitions and conferences for teachers and pupils of modern languages in schools across the country. These are designed to promote language learning at all levels and to encourage high attaining pupils from a wide range of backgrounds to apply to modern languages degree programmes at Oxford.

The Faculty is looking to recruit a handful of DPhil students in the role of MML Graduate Ambassadors to support with the implementation of a pilot outreach project, the VOx Programme, as well as with our annual and ad hoc events and activities. In this role, Graduate Ambassadors will be primarily responsible for designing and delivering engaging materials and interactive sessions for secondary school pupils in schools across the country, in Oxford, and online.

Graduate Ambassadors will be paid £18.43 (Grade 6.1) an hour and should expect to work approximately 30 hours across the academic year. All work is designed to fit around the successful completion of graduate research. Outbound visits to partner schools are a core part of the VOx Programme, so a commitment and willingness to travel a few times a year is an essential criterion of the Graduate Ambassador role. All expenses involved in travelling to schools will be covered upfront or reimbursed by the Faculty.

In this role, graduates will have the opportunity to share their understanding of, and enthusiasm for, modern languages. They will be able to disseminate findings from their current research and to develop their pedagogical expertise. As well as offering a chance to inspire the next generation of linguists, the role will allow graduates to demonstrate and develop their skills as linguists and communicators, thus enhancing their CVs.

Further details about the role’s responsibilities, selection criteria and other information about the Faculty’s outreach strategy can be found in the full job description here
