During the second World War, Daniel Cordier was a young secretary to the famous Jean Moulin, one of the main leaders of the Resistance. His first-hand account of the war years is an invaluable contribution to our understanding of the often difficult relations between the Free French, led by General Charles de Gaulle, and the different Resistance movements active within France. He was present when the National Resistance Council was set up--an essential stage in the recognition of de Gaulle's legitimacy both in France and beyond. "Alias Caracalla", Cordier's memoir, a story of courage and engagement, has recently been translated by Rupert Swyer.
Acclaimed historian Julian Jackson will be in conversation with Rupert Swyer.
