We are delighted to announce that international seminar Balzac et l'Angleterre / Balzac and England is taking place in Oxford this April. The seminar has been jointly arranged by Maison Française d’Oxford, University of Oxford, University of Bradford, Modern Humanities Research Association, and University of Birmingham. The subjects of the presentations will range from English politics as seen by Honoré de Balzac to cross-cultural influences in literature and art.
The seminar will be conducted in both English and French, with speakers arriving from across Britain and France, but also Morocco, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and United States. Over the course of three days this international gathering of scholars will explore the nature of Balzac's engagement with Britain, but also of Britain's — and the world's — engagement with Balzac.
The participation fee is £125 (£75 reduced) and includes all lunches, refreshments, and Friday Gala Dinner. Limited accommodation is available. To find out more about the practical arrangements, please, follow this link (tabs 'Extras' and 'More Info').
