On Wednesday 26 April 2017, H. E. Manuel Lobo Antunes, the Portuguese ambassador to the UK was welcomed by staff and students in the Sub-Faculty of Portuguese.

The ambassador attended the launch of the book Mário de Sá-Carneiro, A Cosmopolitan Modernist (Peter Lang, 2016) edited by Simon Park and Fernando Beleza.

At a dinner on the same evening, hosted by the Master of St Peter's, Mark Damazer, Manuel de Magalhães Villas-Boas presented Tom Stennett with the 2016-17 Magellan Prize. The prize, offered through the generosity of the descendant family of the pioneering navigator, Ferdinand Magellan, rewards outstanding graduate work in Portuguese Studies at Oxford.
