As part of France Culture’s focus on travel, the radio show ‘Soft Power’ devoted its last episode of 2017 to Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891), one of the most important poets of the nineteenth century. As Soft Power investigates cultural productions from a variety of perspectives, the show considered not only Rimbaud the poet, but also the traveler, explorer, and ethnographer, as well as his enduring influence in literature and culture around the world. Among the invited guests was Seth Whidden, who recently completed a biography of Rimbaud due out later this year with in the ‘Critical Lives’ series of Reaktion Books.
