French and History final-year undergraduate at St Hugh's College Maya Thapa-Ó Faoláin is one of only 10 Arts & Humanities students worldwide to pass France's most selective international examination, that of the Sélection internationale of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Congratulations, Maya!

 

The École Normale Supérieure is both a grande école and a university. For over two centuries, it has been one of France's most prestigious higher education institutions. The competitive examination of its International selection is intended for outstanding young graduates from all over the world in the Arts & Humanities (10 places) and in the Sciences (10 places). The examination is a two-stage process: a first selection assesses application dossiers that include a research project proposal; the long-listed candidates are then further selected through oral and written examinations in French (Arts&Humanities) or oral examinations only (Sciences).

Humanities subjects include: Anthropology, Archeology, Classical Studies, Cinema, Theater studies, History of Art, Musicology, Cognitive Studies, Economy, Political Studies, Geography, History, History and Philosophy of Law, History and Philosophy of Sciences, Linguistic, Literature, Philosophy, Sociology.

Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Cognitive Studies, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics.
